Strings or Quantum Gravity

One of my favorite science writers is Michio Kaku. Like Isaac Asimov, Kaku has the rare ability to make extremely complicated science somewhat understandable to people like myself. In his book “Visions” he predicts how science will revolutionize the 21st century. Written in 1997, his predictions 5 years out were right on the mark. If his predictions for the next 25 years are as accurate we will be in for quite a ride. He deals with the Quantum Revolution, the Biomolecular Revolution and the Computer Revolution. He predicts that we will move from discovering the basic forces of nature to becoming choreographers of nature.

Kaku is one of the leading exponents and pioneers of string theory. In a previous book Hyperspace he postulates 10 or even 26 dimensions and it is all spelled out in beautiful equations. His Superstring theory is the hope of many physicists to solve the “Theory Of Everything,” Critics of String Theory call his beautiful equations, “mathematical gobbledy Gook.” This may be unfair and Kaku and others may be right. However I wonder where they will stop adding more dimensions. 26 seem a bit much.

Personally I predict 5 may turn out to be the right number. This 5th dimension may very well be consciousness or “Mind.” As you know I believe this Mind to be the mind of God and thus would only have one dimension to add. Then we would have “one” theory of everything. By the way some of the other “Big Brains” agree with me, that Panpsychism may be the answer.
