Publish or Perish

I seem to increasingly have trouble enjoying articles in scientific journals. It seems to be hard for scientists to show any enthusiasm for their subjects or reveal how they personally feel about it. That's why I decided to personalize my web page. The bulk of scientific writing is written in a detached depersonalized style. Even to most scientists it is dull. Of course my writing may be sometimes dull but I am trying to spice it up a bit by offering my own opinions right or wrong. If you disagree with my opinions let me know! Also I have deleted 5 or 6 articles from these pages that were too similar. Most of my articles are short so the torture is at least brief.

Scientists, who write articles, are often those who feel they must publish or perish. Often the scientist has written the same lengthy opaque article several times before. They just give it new title and rework the first paragraph. Since most of the scientists who do the Peer review on these scientific articles are doing the same thing themselves; a lot of the same authors get published over and over in prestigious journals. "You scratch my back and IÕll scratch yours." I often have the feeling I read the same article 5 or 6 years ago, and I probably did. Peer Review is often nothing more than censorship designed to protect the status quo. This, protecting the status quo, is particularly true in the United States. The British "New Scientist" is one of the few journals to publish controversial new ideas and its circulation is growing.

I can't think of a single mainstream U.S. journal that would publish an article by a Panpsychist. Even if they did, they would have a rebuttal by a famous materialist along side it detailing how ridiculous and unscientific the whole idea is. So we will be stuck for a long time with the myths and fables of materialism explaining how Life and Consciousness began. There I go, repeating myself again!
