| Home | PanspermiaPanspermia is the theory that life must come from space. Obviously Life must come from Life. So now that most honest scientists have given up on the neo-Darwinist explanation of life being formed by spontaneous generation on earth. The formerly discredited idea of Panspermia is getting popular again. Two of the leading exponents of Panspermia are Chandra Wickramasinghe and the late Sir Fred Hoyle. Mathematician and Astronomer Hoyle was old enough that he could safely say, (without fear of retribution) that Life developing on earth through evolution in the cosmic goo was mathematically impossible. Hoyle pointed out that if the entire universe were cosmic soup there still wouldn't have been enough. The mathematical probabilities of it happening by chance were more that all the atoms in the universe. Hoyle was still a dedicated evolutionist and unwilling to give up on evolution entirely so he and Wickramasinghe proposed that Life was seeded from comets coming from space. They published a scenario as to how this could happen. While far-fetched, it is still possible. Still, even if true, this is only putting off the question. Where did life come from? You may have guessed that I am going to suggest the Panpsychist explanation that Life, Mind and Matter have always been here! |
